Caterina Galiotto



Caterina Galiotto gained her piano Diploma at Padua Conservatory, in Italy, after a Bachelor in Classical studies.
During  a  Mastercourse  in  Sion, Switzerland  she was invited , as a special student, to attend the NCSA North Carolina School of the Arts, where, under the guidance of M°C.Matthews, she won the “ Concerto Competition” with Gershwin Piano Concerto in F, which she played with orchestra in North and South Carolina.
In 1990 in Cologne , Germany, she joined the Opera world : James Conlon , GMD of Oper der Stadt Koeln, invited her as language coach for a production of Don Giovanni with T.Allen, C.Vaness,K.Mattila,F.Furlanetto.
That experience  marked a real turning point in her musical career which will take her to work as repetitor, accompanist , vocal coach and musical assistant with famous singers and conductors in Europe : Carlo Rizzi, Alberto Zedda, Michelangelo Veltri, Thomas Hampson,Cristina Gallardo Domas,, directors  Willy Decker, Michael Hampe in Cologne.
At that time she is called by the recording companies Deutsche Grammophon and Harmonia Mundi as musical assistant in several recordings, including two with Anne Sophie von Otter, Musica Antiqua Koln and the entire cycle of Monteverdi with René Jacobs.
Next to it  the musical preparation of the chinese soprano Jing Huang, future Madama Butterfly in the  film by Frederic Mitterand, conductor James Conlon , EMI ,in Paris.
She moved to Holland where she worked regularly at the theatres in Maastricht and Enschede Reisopera and
at De Nederlandse Opera , in Amsterdam . Highlights were “ Turandot” with Riccardo Chailly , “Don Carlos” with tenor Rolando Villazon and Chailly ,” Macbeth” with Carlo Rizzi . She was coaching many singers for  the concert series  “Zaterdagmatinee” at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam . In that period she worked closely with famous dutch soprano Evamaria Westbroek, preparing her for the debut at Covent Garden and Metropolitan .
Since many years she is guest at the Glyndebourne Festival and the Festival Aix en Provence .
Since their first meeting in Glyndebourne , she has also been working  many years  with the conductor Ivan Fischer , chef of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. She assisted him and coached singers for the three Mozart-Da Ponte operas  in Budapest and later in tour in Europe.
In 2011 she started a cooperation with Zurich Opernhaus: remarkable productions were  “Fanciulla del west” where she coached Josè Cura and Ruggero Raimondi ,among others,and “Tosca” with Marcelo Alvarez and Maria Guleghina,  conductor Nello Santi.
During  the entire season 2011-12 she was at the Deutsche Oper  in Berlin where she worked with Alberto Zedda and Patrizia Ciofi in a new production of “Tancredi” , and other singers such as Ambrogio Maestri, Carmen Giannattasio, Vittorio Grigolo.
Lately she was invited at the Teatro Nacional de Costarica in S.Josè , to prepare  “Carmen” with conductor Daniel Nazareth and  “Ariadne auf Naxos” .
She also cooperated as vocal coach with Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow working with General Music Director T.Sochiev in “Boheme” and “Rigoletto”.
Last September she was at Teatro S.Carlo di Napoli to prepare “Stabat Mater” , a world premiere by M°Roberto De Simone .
She speaks fluently english, german  and dutch .
